6 New Sony Ericsson Mobile Phones for India Xperia X8 Cedar Aspen Yendo Zylo Spiro

Sony Ericsson just unveiled six new phones in the Indian market, phones it describes as entertainment-packed...They are: Xperia X8 (previously known as Shakira), the affordable GreenHeart Cedar, the QWERTY messenger Aspen, and three Walkman phones – Yendo, Spiro, and Zylo. Unfortunately, no pricing details have been revealed yet. Sony Ericsson is happy with successful launch of the Fab 5 earlier this year, which were the Xperia X10, Vivaz, Xperia X10 Mini, Vivaz Pro, and Xperia X10 Mini Pro, and is looking to introduce a host of innovative new features with these devices into the Indian market, across various price segments.

Claiming to provide "an unmatchable user experience", the phones each have their own qualities. Lets take a look at them:

Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 - Another member of the Android 1.6 Xperia family, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 is a smaller, lower-powered Xperia X10, and is described as a "great entertainment smartphone that extends the appeal of the Xperia collection to new market segments." While one of the X10s signature applications, Mediascape, is missing from its portfolio, it features Timescape, and, due to its smaller screen, inherits the four-corner shortcut interface from the X10 Mini.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X8GreenHeart Sony Ericsson Cedar - Said to offer the "perfect balance between your business and social communication", the GreenHeart Sony Ericsson Cedar apparently provides easy browsing, emailing, and social networking with its 3G HSPA connectivity, all at an "affordable price", and with green features such as recycled plastics, a low power consumption charger, an e-manual, waterborne paint and compact packaging. Another of its USPs is Widget Manager 2.0, which supposedly gives users social networking features on the standby screen.

GreenHeart Sony Ericsson CedarGreenHeart Sony Ericsson Aspen - The only dedicated business mobile of the lot, the Sony Ericsson Aspen is also the only Windows Mobile (6.5.3 Professional) phone. Branded as an "affordable GreenHeart phone", the Aspen offers green features similar to the Cedar. Citing its "rich user interface and powerful productivity tools" as its business capabilities, Sony Ericsson insists the phone also offers entertainment value, with its Media Browser and PlayNow features, as well as quick access to social networking.

GreenHeart Sony Ericsson AspenSony Ericsson Yendo - Sony Ericssons first full-touch Walkman phone, the Sony Ericsson Yendo is described as combining "music, social networking and communication in one colourful phone. The Yendo also features the Xperia X8 and X10 Minis four-corner shortcut touch-UI, to allow for one handed operation. The phone also features ease of social networking (including Facebook 2.6), instant/text messaging, and email use, and has a designed to be trendy device with numerous body colour choices and mix-and-match combinations.

Sony Ericsson YendoSony Ericsson Zylo and Sony Ericsson Spiro - Distinctly Walkman phones, the Sony Ericsson Zylo and Sony Ericsson Spiro are similar in interface and design, and supposedly "marry music with social networking", allowing users to access everything from Twitter to Facebook at the "touch of a button", without interrupting their music listening experience. The two phones also feature the TrackID function, which allows users to find the name and artist of any track theyre listening to, "wherever they are".

Sony Ericsson Zylo and Sony Ericsson Spiro
Sony Ericssons Anurag Kontu, Marketing Head – India, commented on the introduction of the new phones into the Indian market: "Greater access to applications and customizable user experience on handheld devices has shaped the mobile success story in India today. As the communication entertainment brand, Sony Ericsson phones have always enjoyed a phenomenal response from consumers in the region. With the launch of the new portfolio, we continue to offer an amalgamation of communication and entertainment by fusing together best quality touchscreen experience, premium imaging and music features, and great connectivity options across price segments."

GFive Mobiles Becomes 2nd Largest Selling Mobile Phones In India

According to market intelligence firm IDCs India Quarterly Mobile Handsets Tracker, 3Q 2010, December 2010 release, the Chinese brand GFive emerged as No. 2 player in terms of unit shipments market share leaving behind the Korean handset manufacturer Samsung at at No. 3 in 3Q 2010.

With Nokia having a market share of over 30% , G Five left behind rest of the competitors with a market share of 11%.

The India mobile handsets market continued to grow in 3Q 2010 as well to record a quarter-on-quarter (3Q 2010 over 2Q 2010) growth of 3.6%* to touch 40.08 million units in the quarter, according to IDC India. The year is expected to end with total mobile handset sales of 155.9 million units.

The number of emerging vendors in Indias burgeoning mobile handsets market grew to 68% and they together garnered 41.2%* of total shipments (sales) for the first time during the July-Sep 2010 quarter. This represented a steady rise from only 5 new vendors representing a 0.9%* combined share of units shipped in the January-March 2008 quarter.

The man behind the stupendous growth of GFive in India , Mr. Jaideep Chopra said " GFive mobiles have always been very active in terms of sales in India and the research results have finally proved that. Our mobiles are high on quality and priced very competitively making it a must buy for all mobile users in India. Our major share of sales have been with the young population of India along with people of various age groups. Our strong point has always been the easy availability of G Five in all the cities and towns or villages of India as we believe that a useful product like a mobile phone should be available to all".

3Q 2010 saw a strong quarter-on-quarter (3Q 2010 over 2Q 2010) growth in smartphone sales by 34.2%* and a year-on-year (3Q 2010 over 3Q 2009) increase by 294.9%*. This clearly underscores the trend that India mobile handset consumers have started showing higher inclination towards adopting smartphones.

Smartphone prices continued to drop through the year and as competition increased, devices were made available by vendors at successively lower price points. So, while 80%* of total India smartphone sales were below the ASV (Average Sales Value) of Rs. 18,000 in 2Q 2010, this proportion increased to 90%* in 3Q 2010. And this is where G Five mobiles captured the market with best features at a very competitive price.

Mr. Chopra continued saying that "we have had a good run in terms of sales in Tier II & III cities in India and would now be moving to metros with new models being launched very soon. We hope to see G five mobile phones as a must buy mobile phone for all those people who want good quality at a much cheaper price and India would be one of primary markets as India is a huge market for mobile phones".
